Operations

NAF Atsugi provides unparalleled service and support to the Fleet, surpassing every mission requirement in both operational and community areas, while simultaneously maintaining an enviable safety and inspection record.

Base leadership remains committed to improving and revitalizing an aging infrastructure of base facilities, housing and work areas. The Public Works Department oversees numerous projects including a state-of-the-art main gate the headquarters facility in addition to demolition of older sites to make way for future projects.

NAF Atsugi operationally supports Carrier Air wing FIVE and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FIVE ONE (HSM-51), the only forward deployed activities of their type. NAF’s Air Operations department moved tons of cargo and thousands of passengers in support of Atsugi-based commands and others in this theater in addition to providing direct support for Operation Enduring Freedom (Philippines).

Maintaining a positive relationship with the local Japanese community and improving the quality of life for all Atsugi residents also remained high on the list of priorities. Chapel outreach programs and Host Nation Relations activities ensure that thousands of local Japanese understand that the mission of Atsugi.

Atsugi commands and departments play a key role in quality of life with programs that reach all community members. Construction is ongoing the revitalization of housing units. The Fleet and Family Support Center continues to offer programs such as Transition Assistance, Family Advocacy, and New Parent Support which reach all walks of life in Atsugi. MWR also hosts a variety of Quality of Life improvements which includes their youth and teen programs along with award-winning Body Pump and Body Combat pilot programs for the Navy.

Together, the facility’s outstanding mission accomplishments and community relations efforts show why NAF Atsugi is truly an installation of excellence.
