CFAY TRANSIENT PERSONNEL UNIT

Sailors who haven't already received a Welcome Aboard package may visit CFAY's #WelcomeAboardYokosuka page. Though tailored to CFAY prospective gains, our Welcome Aboard package has a lot of information relevant to any Sailor arriving to any command in Yokosuka.

Transient Personnel Unit, or TPU, processes more than 1,000 Sailors annually and manages the barracks housing them. TPU, located in Building 1969, is centrally located on Main Base and within a 5-minute walk of the Commodore Matthew C. Perry General Mess, Navy Exchange, Commissary, and Navy Federal Credit Union.

TPU primarily serves Sailors transferring to or departing off of deployed ships assigned within SEVENTH Fleet Area of Responsibility.

All Sailors assigned to a ship not in port:

Upon your arrival to Yokosuka, report to Transient Personnel Unit (TPU), Bldg 1969. TPU is an 8-minute walk from the CFAY Airport Shuttle Service stop immediately outside the Yokosuka Transaction Support Center (TSC).

There is a courtesy phone outside the TSC shuttle stop to call a base taxi. Please dial 243-4444 to reach the Yokosuka Navy Exchange-contracted Base Taxi Dispatch Office. Base taxis are not free shuttle services, so please ensure you have enough money to pay the fare.

At TPU, our staff will need your military ID, a copy of your orders and valid recall information (e.g. phone number, email address, Navy Lodge room if applicable) at check-in. TPU staff will assign you a barracks room if you do not have other lodging arrangements.

TPU staff may be able to assist Sailors needing TSC services, Navy Housing assignments, Area Orientation Brief/Intercultural Relations (AOB/ICR) registration, among other requirements as necessary.

Sailors of all ranks assigned to TPU are required to muster Monday through Friday with the TPU Central Processing Office. Please check with the TPU staff for more information.

Sailors arriving with family members:

May first check their family members into Navy Lodge, but will report to TPU immediately after checking in to Navy Lodge. Please note, Navy Lodge is a 25-minute walk from the PSD Narita shuttle stop and TPU is about a 20-minute walk from Navy Lodge. Navy Lodge staff may assist you in getting base taxi service if desired.

Single Sailors:

Will receive lodging arrangements after checking in at TPU. Single Sailors in paygrades E-7 or senior may be directed to the Navy Lodge or NGIS if no other lodging is available.

Sailors transferring off a Yokosuka ship:

TPU staff can only check in Sailors assigned to Yokosuka ships not in port.

These Sailors must bring properly endorsed Permanent Change-of-Station (PCS) orders and TPU staff will assign a barracks room if needed. Single Sailors in paygrades E-7 and senior may be directed to Navy Lodge or NGIS if no other lodging is available.
