Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka has three gates; Carney GateWomble Gate and Verny Gate.

The main entrance and exit is Carney Gate, and is commonly referred to as Main Gate. Carney Gate, named after Admiral Robert Carney, comes directly off National Route 16 and is the larger of the two vehicle entrances permitting six lanes of traffic, a pedestrian gate on the boardwalk near Navy Gateway Inns and Suites, the CFAY Quarterdeck and provides a central location for the CFAY Security Visitor Control Center.

This gate, sometimes called the Back Gate, also provides the quickest access to U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka. During rush hour on normal work days, this gate’s traffic flow shifts to a high traffic pattern; incoming before working hours and outgoing after working hours.

Verny Gate, named after François Léonce Verny, is the pedestrian only gate located next to Coaska Mall. The gate has been referred to as Coaska GateAEON GateDaiei Gate among other nicknames often referring to the name of the mall located next to the installation. Amongst locals, the nickname you use for Verny Gate is a hint to how long you’ve been in Yokosuka.

Verny Gate leads directly on to the City of Yokosuka’s Verny Boardwalk that takes pedestrians to Verny Park and JR Yokosuka Train Station. Many commuters also use this gate to quickly access Keikyu Shioiri Train Station located across the street from Coaska Mall.
