During Storm Warnings and Tropical Cyclone Conditions of Readiness (TCCOR) there are various safety and preparedness guidelines and steps everyone must take to ensure and secure their safety. On Atsugi – in addition to the below standards of readiness – all hands and residents are strongly encouraged to monitor the Command Facebook page (click here) and Eagle 810 Radio (AM 810) for more specific information. Standing storm warnings are also broadcast on the base information channel and marquees.
When:
NAF Atsugi is in Storm Watch (Prior to TCCOR):
There exists the potential for strong winds and heavy rains in the forecast. All hands and residents of the base and those residing off base are advised to secure outdoor gear, monitor the weather, check for updates to weather conditions and review TCCOR conditions of readiness. It is also advisable to check the conditions and availability of home emergency kits, ensure adequate availability of food, water, medical and other comfort items. NAF Atsugi is in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) IV:
Winds of 50 knots or greater are possible within the next 72 hours. All hands, residents and families both on and off base should identify loose items, equipment or gear around the exterior of their work places and homes that could become missile hazards and make preparations for stowing and securing them. It is recommended all hands and local residents ensure they have a three-day supply of food and water on hand and replenish emergency supplies, including any medicines. All hands should remain in contact with their individual chains of command for more department-specific information and to determine their mission essential status. NAF Atsugi is in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) III:
Destructive winds of 50 knots or greater are indicated within 48 hours. This includes the possibility of danger due the proximity of an incoming storm and possible unforeseen changes in storm track and/or strength. Essential personnel should be notified; all hands should contact or remain in contact with their respective chains of command and determine their essential status. Residents should ensure they have adequate (3-day) supply of food and water and have emergency supplies, including medicines. Ensure any loose equipment or gear is safely secured. NAF Atsugi is in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) II:
Destructive winds of 50 knots or greater are anticipated within 24 hours. The possibility of danger due the proximity of an incoming storm and possible unforeseen changes in storm track and/or strength is possible. DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR: school closure announcements are anticipated for DoDDS students. Staff and teachers may work normal hours, unless DoDDS superintendent or authority provides other guidance. Residents should ensure access to food, water, emergency supplies and medicines as conditions are expected to become more severe. Make final check to secure loose gear. If it is raining and windy, take caution during travel if travel is necessary. All non-essential personnel may be released to their quarters. All personnel and residents should return to residences or choose their shelter locations. DURING SCHOOL YEAR DoDDS schools should be closed. Anticipate base services, stores, restaurants, and service facilities to be closed. Movement on base should be kept to a minimum. Severe weather may be intermittent and unpredictable. NAF Atsugi is in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) I Emergency:
The area is either experiencing or anticipating imminent drenching rain and gusting winds of 50 knots or greater. Everyone should be sheltering. Severity of weather is unpredictable but expected to be severe as the system passes through the area. Outside activity is dangerous and prohibited on base for all hands except for emergency responders. Monitor the Command Facebook page and Eagle 810 Radio (AM 810) for more specific information, including base service closures.
NAF Atsugi is in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) I Recovery:
The greatest threat of severe weather has passed. However, although the destructive winds have subsided, or are currently not forecast to occur any longer, there remains the possibility of danger due the proximity of the storm and possible flooding and damage to trees or structures. During TCCOR I Recovery, only emergency services personnel should be outside during the recovery and assessment efforts. Residents and sheltered staff members should remain sheltered and contact other family members. Additionally, military members are recommended to contact their respective chains of command and identify their status and, where appropriate, the status of their families.
NAF Atsugi is in Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness (TCCOR) I All Clear:
The threat of severe weather has passed. However, although the destructive winds have subsided, or are currently not forecast to occur any longer, there remains the possibility of danger due the lingering proximity of the storm and unforeseen changes in storm track and/or strength. Travel with caution especially in areas that have experienced flooding. Do not attempt to drive through standing or rushing water, even in local streets. Take caution near large trees, under branches and near areas where there is branch, leaves or other debris. If you have not done so, contact other family members. All hands are recommended to contact their respective chains of command and identify their status and where appropriate the status of their families. Also, all hands should visit the NFAAS (Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System) web site and update theirs and their family’s status.
