Chief Staff Officer, Commander Fleet Air Western Pacific
CDR Fredland is a native of Houston, Texas, where he lived until moving to Annapolis, Maryland, where he graduated with a commission and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the US Naval Academy. CDR Fredland conducted flight training in Florida and Texas earning his Naval Aviator Wings in June 2005.
After completing P-3 FRS training, CDR Fredland reported to the VP-9 “Golden Eagles” at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. During this tour he served as the Pilot NATOPS Officer, Instructor Pilot and Mission Commander and completed deployments to Qatar, Djibouti, Iraq, Japan, and the Philippines.
CDR Fredland was selected for FRS Instructor Duty, returning to Jacksonville for shore duty. At the “Pro’s Nest”, he completed the Orion Weapons Tactics Instructor Course and worked at both VP-30 and the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School. He served as the Fleet Introduction Team Division Officer, Fleet NATOPS Pilot Evaluator, and IUT Instructor.
In September of 2011, CDR Fredland transferred to VP-10 as the Squadron Weapons Tactics Instructor and led the “Red Lancers” through two deployments to Bahrain, Qatar, Japan, Guam, and South Korea, serving as the Assistant Tactics Officer and the Tactics Officer.
CDR Fredland then returned to Hawaii joining VP-4 in September 2013, completing two SIXTH Fleet deployments as a “Skinny Dragon”. He served as the Tactics Officer, Safety/NATOPS Officer, N6 Department Head, Training Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Senior Pilot.
In December 2016, CDR Fredland reported to Misawa, Japan, where he served as the Patrol and Reconnaissance Force Fleet Support Unit SEVEN Officer-in Charge until December 2019.
CDR Fredland is currently serving as the Commander Fleet Air Western Pacific Chief Staff Officer and Safety Department Head in Atsugi, Japan.
CDR Fredland’s personal and campaign awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal Strike Flight Award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Service and Expeditionary Medals, and numerous unit level awards.
