Command Master Chief, Commander Fleet Air Western Pacific
Command Master Chief James Lighty is a native of New York, and raised in the borough of Brooklyn. He enlisted in the Navy November 16, 2000 and reported to Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL. He successfully completed Seaman “ATD” School in 2001, and Master -at- Arms "A" school in 2003.
In 2016 while assigned to Naval Air Facility Misawa Japan as Department Leading Petty Officer of Security he routinely filled the role as acting Command Master Chief. This led to him filling a 3 month gapped and was selected to Command Senior Chief.
In October of 2018 he reported to Commander Patrol Reconnaissance Wing One (CTF-72) as Command Senior Enlisted Leader of staff with OPCON of Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aviation Forces and Tactical Operation Centers. He was promoted to Command Master Chief.
In September 2021, he reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWELVE forward deployed aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and USS Blue Ridge (LCC).
Since May 2024 he is serving as Command Master Chief at Commander Fleet Air Western Pacific.
His other assignments include: VQ3 Det Offut Nebraska, Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa Japan, Harbor Patrol Unit Bahrain, USS CARR (FFG 52) Norfolk Virginia, Navy Expeditionary Guard Battalion Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Subase New London Connecticut and the USS DEROIT (AOE 4) New Jersey.
His deployments include: 4th Fleet, 5th Fleet, 6th Fleet and 7th Fleet AORs.
Lighty graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 195 (Khaki) in April 2016, Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat (CMC/COB) course (Class 191) in September 2018 and Advance Command Master Chief course in April 2024.
He is qualified to wear the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignias. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (Three Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Accommodation Medal (three Awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (two Awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two Awards), Good Conduct Medal (five Awards) Military Outstanding Voluntary Service Medal (two Awards), Flag Letter of Commendation along with various unit and campaign awards.
