Officer in Charge
Lieutenant Commander Simpson assumed charge of Commander, Fleet Air Western Pacific (CFWP) Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment (AIMD) Atsugi, Japan on August 8th, 2024. He is a native of Gaffney, South Carolina and was 18 years old when he enlisted in the Navy on December 10th, 1998. Post Boot Camp he completed AD “A” School in April 1999. He earned his commission through the Limited Duty Officer program in February 2011.
Operational assignments include three tours with Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 51 (HSM-51); Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 77 (HSM-77); Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 12 (HSC-12); and USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN-76) AIMD.
Shore assignments include tours at CFWP AIMD Atsugi, Japan and Fleet Readiness Center Southwest Detachment North Island (FRC SW).
Lieutenant Commander Simpson has earned numerous ribbons, service medals, awards, and qualifications most notably being recognized as the 2007 Sikorsky Maintenance Man of the Year, 2008 HSM-77’s Senior Sailor of the Year, 2008 COMHSMWINGPAC Senior Enlisted Leader of the Year, promotion to Chief Petty Officer, commissioning as a naval officer, and earning his Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer Warfare (PAMO) designation at FRC SW.
