The Chapel of Hope is the largest religious program in the U.S. Navy.  It is a multi-faith community serving over 24,000 personnel and family members who work and reside in Yokosuka and Ikego military housing areas as well as many military families and individuals who live off-base in the Japanese community.  

The Chapel of Hope offers several opportunities for worship services, sacramental and pastoral ministries, children/youth ministries, spiritual music, community outreach, humanitarian service and religious education.  We also offer pastoral counseling to individuals, couples, single Sailors, family members as well as crisis intervention.  Please see our section on religious services consisting of Roman Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, and various Protestant including Gospel Services, Filipino Services, General Protestant, Protestant Communion Service, Contemporary Christian Services, Church of Christ, Seventh-Day Adventist and others.

Ministry to people lies at the heart of who we are, and what we do every day. We are dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and fellowship. If you are interested in volunteering or participating in any of our ministry programs to include: choir, Roman Catholic and Protestant Youth Groups, Sunday School, Bible Studies, CCD (Confraternity Christian Doctrine), AWANA, Japanese Women’s Bible studies, Protestant Women of the Chapel, Men’s Studies, etc. If there's a program not on the list that you would like to see offered, please contact us (information below).

The Chapel is located across the street from the Purdy Gym and next to the Community Resource Center Library.  We welcome the opportunity to introduce you to a faith community best suiting your needs. To schedule an appointment with a Chaplain, either visit the Chapel during normal working hours or give us a call at the number listed below.  

The following schedule of worship services at CFAY’s Chapel of Hope is current as of September 16, 2023. This schedule can also be found on Seahawk Umitaka. If your faith is not represented in the list below, please contact the Chapel of Hope. The Chapel of Hope can assist community members of all faiths and denominations find their desired worship service through lay leaders, places of worship available off base, or even establishing new services.

  • Protestant Service, 9:30 a.m. in the Main Sanctuary (live stream available)

  • Ikego Protestant Service, 10 a.m. in Ikego Elementary School Cafeteria

  • Roman Catholic Mass, 11 a.m. in the Main Sanctuary

  • International Christian Fellowship, 11 a.m. in the CRC Auditorium Kodo Room

  • Gospel Praise Service, 12:30 p.m. in the Main Sanctuary

  • Orthodox Christian Service (2nd and 4th Sundays only), 11 a.m. in the Jewish Chapel


  • Muslim Prayer, 12 p.m. in Classroom 1

  • Jewish Shabbat, 5:30 p.m. in the Jewish Chapel


  • Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (2nd Saturdays only), 9 a.m. in the Main Sanctuary
