Captain Peter J. Hatcher

Captain Peter J. Hatcher, a native of Wellington, KS, graduated from the University of Kansas in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and was commissioned through the NROTC program. He completed flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2002. In 2009, he earned an MBA from the Naval Postgraduate School. 

At sea, he served with HSL-43 as the quality assurance officer deploying on USS McClusky (FFG 41) and USS Rentz (FFG 46); aboard USS Peleliu (LHA 5) as the assistant air officer; and with HSL-37 as detachment three OIC and operations officer, deploying on USS Vandegrift (FFG 48). Captain Hatcher’s executive officer and command tour was with HSM-79, assigned to CVW-7. During this tour, the Griffins deployed on USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and flew missions in the Second, Sixth and Fifth Fleet areas of operation earning the COMPACFLT Retention Excellence Award, the SECNAV Safety Award and the CNAF Golden Wrench for excellence in maintenance.

His shore tours include an instructor pilot tour with the Doerbirds of VT-2; as a student at Army Command and General Staff College; and joint duty as the deputy branch chief and aircraft nuclear planner for Global Strike JF-514 at United States Strategic Command. His most recent tour was at the Undersea Warfighting Development Center serving as the director of strike group training and staff training director.

CAPT Hatcher has accumulated over 2,800 flight hours in naval aircraft. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Air Medal (Individual Action), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit awards.
