Captain Michael Fontaine

A native of Michigan, Captain Fontaine enlisted in the Navy in 1995 as a Machinist’s Mate.  He was commissioned through the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program at North Carolina State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and graduating in 2000. He holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.
 
At sea, Captain Fontaine served as antisubmarine warfare officer and combat information center officer, USS Reuben James (FFG 57); reactor controls division officer, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); first lieutenant, USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41); reactor training assistant, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77); and assistant reactor officer, USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).
 
His shore and staff assignments include Shift Engineer Moored Training Ship 626 (MTS 626) at Nuclear Power Training Unit, Production Requirements Branch Deputy Branch Head in the Learning and Development Division at Naval Education and Training Command, and Director of Current Operations at U.S. Second Fleet.
 
Captain Fontaine served in command leadership positions as executive officer of Assault Craft Unit FOUR (ACU 4) and as executive officer and then commanding officer of Beachmaster Unit TWO (BMU 2).
 
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Good Conduct Medal and numerous unit and expeditionary awards and ribbons.
