Fleet Fitness Center Undergoes Renovations

03 October 2025

From Michelle Rienstra

Maintaining peak physical condition is a critical piece of our warrior ethos. It can also be challenging in a hot, humid, tropical environment like Singapore. Recognizing this, the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) team joined forces with Public Works Department Singapore for a significant renovation of the installation’s gym. They enhanced the facilities and brought updated equipment to the fitness hub, directly supporting the mission of enabling and supporting the fighter in Singapore.
Sembawang, Singapore-- Maintaining peak physical condition is a critical piece of our warrior ethos.
This nine-month renovation, which started in December 2024, addressed several key areas of the fleet gym. These improvements are aimed at providing a more comfortable, modern, and comprehensive fitness experience for all users.
"Our mission here in Singapore is to enable and support the fighter," stated Capt. Silas L Bouyer II, Singapore Area Coordinator (SAC) Commanding Officer. "That means providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to be physically and mentally ready. A well-equipped and maintained gym is a vital component of that support. This renovation directly contributes to the readiness and well-being of our personnel and their families."

The revamped gym boasts:
State-of-the-art Equipment: Upgrades include 5 new Eleiko work stations complete with 10 squat racks and 5 deadlift platforms, along with a wider variety of resistance training options, which caters to diverse fitness needs.
Improved Space Utilization: The renovation optimized the layout of the gym, creating more open space for functional fitness activities such as the indoor multipurpose court to accommodate tennis, volleyball, basketball, and badminton and indoor sprinting track. There has also been a renovation to the bathrooms to include showers and locker rooms.
Enhanced Environment: Updated flooring such as the indoor turf, lighting, and climate control HVAC installation in the lobby, racquetball court, and child’s play area which contribute to a more comfortable and motivating workout environment.

The Singapore Area Coordinator (SAC) & MWR team understands the importance of physical fitness for both individual well-being and mission readiness. The enhanced gym offers a convenient and accessible outlet for service members, civilians, and their families to maintain a healthy lifestyle 24/7.

"We're committed to providing top-notch MWR programs and facilities that support the unique needs of the Singapore installation," added Deryck Gorman, Fleet & Family Readiness Director. "This gym renovation is just one example of our ongoing efforts to enable and support the fighter and ensure they have the resources they need to succeed."

The newly renovated gym is now open and welcoming users to experience the improved facilities. With the new upgrades, the Sembawang gym is poised to become an even more popular and valuable asset for the entire installation community, directly contributing to the lethality and readiness of America’s fighting Force.
