Commander Samuel Laurvick

Cmdr. Samuel Laurvick, a native of St. Louis, MO., commissioned as an Ensign in 2008 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL. There he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Business Marketing. He is a graduate of the University of Florida where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 2017.

His first sea duty assignment was to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 74 (HSM-74) deploying onboard USS Gravely (DDG 107) and USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) to the Fifth and Sixth Fleet Areas of Responsibility. He served onboard USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) for his disassociated sea duty where he was the Assistant Air Operations Officer, “Miniboss,” and the ship’s Safety Officer. He was assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Four Six (HSM-46) for his department head tour where he served as squadron Safety Officer, Officer-in-Charge for Carrier Element Two onboard USS Farragut (DDG 99), and the Squadron Maintenance Officer onboard USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77).

Ashore, Cmdr. Laurvick served as an instructor pilot with Helicopter Training Squadron Eighteen (HT-18) for instrument, navigation, and night vision devices, and was the squadron standardization instructor for formation tactics stages. Additionally, he served as the Operations Officer for Commander, Fleet Activities Okinawa where he currently remains as the Executive Officer.

Cmdr. Laurvick has accumulated more than 3,200 flight hours in various platforms and hundreds of landings onboard USS and coalition warships. His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (2), as well as various unit and campaign awards.
