Equal Employment Opportunity

EEO - Federal law makes it illegal to discriminate against employees or applicants for employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation and pregnancy), national origin, disability (mental or physical), genetic information or age (40 or older). The law also prohibits retaliation against a person for filing an EEO complaint, participating in an investigation of a complaint, or opposing an illegal employment practice.

Discrimination complaints

Civilian employees or applicants for employment who believe they have been discriminated against on the basis of one or more EEO protected categories or in retaliation for EEO activity have the right to file a complaint of discrimination.

How to file a complaint

If you believe you have been subjected to discrimination, you must make contact with an EEO counselor within 45 calendar days from the date of the matter alleged to be discriminatory (or when you became aware of it), or in the case of a personnel action, within 45 calendar days of its effective date. If you are alleging age-based discrimination, you may contact an EEO Counselor to initiate the administrative complaint process OR you may bypass that process and file a civil action directly in U.S. District Court after providing the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission with a written notice of intent to sue under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
